IGF-1 LR3 is a modified analog of insulin-like growth factor-1, a hormone that occurs naturally in the body and plays a central role in growth and cellular development. The “LR3” designation refers to two structural modifications: an extended 13-amino-acid sequence at one end of the molecule and a substitution at the third position. Together, these changes substantially reduce the peptide’s affinity for its binding proteins, which is the feature that has drawn scientific attention to this analog.

Because IGF-1 LR3 binds only weakly to IGF binding proteins, it remains active in circulation considerably longer than IGF-1. Investigations into this compound have focused on its interaction with the IGF-1 receptor, through which it is understood to influence cellular proliferation, protein synthesis, and tissue growth. Studies have also examined its effects on muscle cell development, including the activation of satellite cells and the promotion of myofibre growth — processes associated with increases in muscle mass and strength.
